Coinbase and Citi Connect Virtual Accounts with Stablecoin Payments for Businesses
Coinbase and Citi announced an expanded collaboration on 28 September 2026 to link conventional bank payment infrastructure with stablecoin services for business customers. Coinbase said Citi’s Virtual Account Wallet will underpin Coinbase Virtual Accounts, allowing incoming fiat funds to be converted into stablecoins within a business payment workflow.
On the merchant side, Coinbase’s infrastructure will support stablecoin acceptance for Citi institutional clients through Spring by Citi. The design lets a customer pay with a stablecoin while the merchant receives fiat settlement, avoiding a need for the merchant to hold the digital asset. Coinbase says the initiatives will start in the United States, with additional capabilities to follow.
Pricing, supported networks, launch availability and jurisdictional rules require confirmation as the services roll out. Stablecoins carry issuer, technical, custody and regulatory risks. This article reports a business announcement and is not investment advice.
