OCC finalises stablecoin rules ahead of 18 January 2027 implementation
The OCC issued its final GENIUS Act stablecoin rule on 21 October 2026, with an effective date of 18 January 2027. The announcement does not mean all provisions are already in force today.
The framework covers reserves, redemptions, risk management, audits, reporting, custody, applications and supervision of relevant foreign issuers within OCC jurisdiction.
Bank Secrecy Act, anti-money-laundering and sanctions matters are being addressed through separate rulemaking coordinated with the Treasury. This rule does not replace those requirements.
