Circle outlines cross-chain ERC-20 routes through CCTP
Circle’s developer article published on 30 October 2026 explains CCTP routes for ERC-20 tokens beyond USDC, focusing on consistent asset identity across application chains.
It distinguishes newly deployed native tokens from existing issuer-controlled tokens configured for the service. Burn-and-mint destroys tokens on the source and mints on the destination against an attested message; arbitrary tokens do not become transferable without configuration.
The Arc Testnet walkthrough is a development example, not evidence that every component is production-ready for real funds. Check administrative roles, limits and contract addresses. Smart-contract, cross-chain and irreversible-transfer risks remain.
