Solana confirms Alpenglow mainnet activation in epoch 1064
The Solana Foundation’s upgrade page, updated in October 2026, says Alpenglow is live on mainnet. Its activation occurred in epoch 1064, which began on 21 October at approximately 13:36 UTC, followed by the consensus handover from TowerBFT.
The upgrade changes how validators agree on transaction order and finality. The stated protocol target is roughly 150 milliseconds, compared with about 12.8 seconds under TowerBFT. It is not a promise that every wallet or transaction will display the same latency.
Technical documentation describes a Genesis Certificate recording the transition. Ordinary applications generally retain their transaction model, while indexers and block-data services may need to handle bank identifiers and block ordering differently.
Faster finality can support payments and on-chain applications, but observed performance also depends on infrastructure providers, network latency and application settings. A protocol update is not investment advice or a token-price forecast. Crypto assets retain price and operational risks.
