Binance suspends deposits and withdrawals during security checks; frozen funds are not a final loss figure
Binance is investigating a security incident involving unusual wallet activity. Information available on the morning of 30 October 2026 includes a temporary suspension of deposits and withdrawals during checks, alongside the company’s pledge to cover losses under its announcement.
Binance’s 30 October Security Incident Update estimates the preliminary impact at around $6.3 billion and says approximately $3 billion has been frozen on-chain with partners. This supersedes the earlier $2.54 billion freeze reported by Reuters. Estimated impact, frozen assets and any final net loss are different measures.
Binance says initial findings may involve a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop, with a full technical report still pending and no evidence found of wallet private keys leaking. Separately, Binance TH says it is an independent legal entity with segregated custody and cold wallets. It has temporarily suspended digital-asset deposits and withdrawals for precautionary checks, while saying other services continue normally.
