SEC Crypto-Offering Proposal Nears Its 20 October Comment Deadline
The US Securities and Exchange Commission’s Regulation Crypto Assets proposal has a public-comment deadline of 20 October 2026, according to official file S7-2026-27. The comment register includes submissions received on 16 October, making the approaching deadline a current regulatory checkpoint.
The proposal was issued on 18 August; it is not a newly effective rule announced today. It proposes registration exemptions for certain investment contracts involving crypto assets, including one route capped at US$5 million over four years and another at US$75 million per 12-month period.
Issuers would still make disclosures and remain subject to antifraud and market-manipulation provisions. A conditional safe-harbour concept is also included. These remain proposals that may change following consultation, not approvals of individual tokens or blanket liability exemptions.
