Coinbase Joins Anti-Scam Effort as NCA Reports 28 Arrests in Ghana and Nigeria
Law-enforcement agencies and technology companies, including Coinbase and Meta, disclosed results on 13 October 2026 from an operation coordinated in London on 6–9 October. For digital-asset users, the effort highlights tracing funds and sharing actionable intelligence alongside removing scam accounts.
The UK’s National Crime Agency reported 19 arrests in Ghana and nine in Nigeria, a total of 28 suspects, together with seized devices. Arrests are investigative steps rather than findings of guilt.
The NCA also identified approximately US$11 million in assets potentially available for freezing. This is not confirmation that the money has already been seized or returned to victims. Separately, Meta reported removing 3.7 million accounts and profiles associated with scam networks; that figure is not an arrest count.
Coinbase describes transaction analysis as part of the response, but collaboration cannot guarantee recovery in every case. Anyone facing guaranteed-return pitches or demands for crypto payments to unlock funds should pause, preserve evidence and contact verified providers and authorities. Digital assets carry both price and fraud risks.
