BirdLife Warns That Climate Overshoot Could Leave Lasting Damage
BirdLife International called for faster climate action on 30 September 2026 following a UNEP report examining temperature overshoot: exceeding a warming limit before bringing temperatures down again.
A temporary exceedance does not necessarily produce temporary harm. BirdLife warns that hotter and longer overshoot raises risks for species and ecosystems, including damage that may be irreversible.
UNEP’s analysis connects emissions reduction with adaptation and considers the consequences along a temperature pathway, rather than only its eventual endpoint.
For Thai readers, the warning offers context for climate policy and habitat protection. It is a global assessment, not a local rainfall forecast or an immediate disaster alert for Thailand.
