The Ethereum Foundation has introduced zkAPI, a system for purchasing and spending API usage credits while reducing the link between user identity and usage patterns through zero-knowledge proofs.
Users deposit credits and authorize bounded usage with cryptographic proofs. The provider sees requests and the payment layer sees credit spending, but neither necessarily sees the full connection.
The model may benefit data services, AI tools and digital infrastructure that charge by usage, although implementation cost, complexity and security still require careful evaluation.
The Ethereum Foundation says zkAPI is live on Ethereum Mainnet. Developers and organizations should test integrations, review smart contracts and consider applicable privacy laws.
