English Version: Russell Edges Verstappen by a Tenth in Azerbaijan Grand Prix Thriller
George Russell won the 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix on 26 September, finishing roughly a tenth of a second ahead of Max Verstappen. The result has implications for the continuing drivers’ championship battle.
Formula 1 reports that Russell started from pole and controlled much of the race before a safety car on lap 31, triggered by Alex Albon’s crash, changed the closing phase. Verstappen advanced into contention, but Russell held the lead despite a late yellow flag sharply narrowing the margin.
Isack Hadjar finished third on his return from a wrist injury. Formula 1 says Russell cut his gap to Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli to 66 points after Baku. That standings figure can change in subsequent rounds.
